Verdelago Resort Review: A Sustainable Luxury Stay in Portugal’s Eastern Algarve

Mother’s Day 2025 and I wanted to stay somewhere truly special during our 9 day trip through Portugal. We spent two incredible nights at the Verdelago Resort in the Eastern Algarve. The Verdelago Resort offers a “Luxe Modern Boho” design esthetic with one bedroom – three bedroom townhomes and villas. We LOVED the design of this resort- offering unique details with a clean, simple aesthetic. For some reason, The Verdelago Resort doesn’t always make in onto the top luxury resort lists with Vita Vita Parc, Bela Vista Hotel and Spa or Pine Cliffs Hotel but we consider Verdelago THE Luxury Secret Hidden Gem of the Algarve! Here’s Why:

1. The Eastern Algarve
The lesser known and visited Eastern Algarve offers some incredible attractions with significantly less crowds. The weather tends to be slightly warmer here which is bonus if you are visiting in the shoulder season. The beaches here are significantly different than in central Algarve with less cliffside vistas and the more traditional long stretches of sandy beach; perfect for sunset strolls and swimming. 2. Direct Beach Access to Praia Verde
Verdelago sits directly adjacent to Praia Verde, a long and wide stretch of white sand and beautiful dunes. The beach is accessed from a collection of board walks that meander through the Verdelago property. You can explore using the complimentary bikes located across the property or you can walk from your villa to the beach via the boardwalks. We spent multiple nights at sunset on this beautiful beach and the views… the warm light is captivating!

3. Array of Amenities
We really wanted a place we could dig our feet in the sand and experience a location to its fullest potential. So much of our travel is centered around getting to the next attraction and seeing and exploring as much as we can but we wanted to infuse a few days of tranquility, relaxation and absorption of what makes the Algarve so special. We spent 3 full days on the property and experienced everything from delicious meals served alfresco to massages and complimentary yoga classes!
1. Gorgeous pool areas with comfortable loungers- the staff will bring water or cocktails at your request and who doesn’t love to be served the perfect concoction poolside?!
2. Your stay includes the most incredible breakfast buffet! This is NOT your run of the mill buffet and breakfast sustained us through most of the day. The buffet includes hot options as well as the biggest array of pastries, yogurt, etc. You’ll even have the opportunity to try hive honey direct from the hive! This is a truly exceptional offering and we took full advantage each morning!
3. Verdelago’s beachside restaurant (located directly on the beach) features locally sourced seafood and creative cuisine perfect for a midday lunch amongst the dunes. Verdelago offers fully staffed beach loungers perfect for taking in the beauty of Praia da Verde.
4. Full Concierge service- the staff at the Verdelago will book excursions and recommend some unique options for day trips. You can utilize their concierge service to plan excursions before your trip and everything will be booked and ready for you when you arrive.
5. Spa services: We had the most incredible massage in one of the Villas and there are options to have your massage outside in their forest for a truly special experience.

The implementation of a light transport mobility plan also significantly reduces harmful gas emissions.”
Power and Energy Initiatives: “The Verdelago Resort was designed to be a self-sufficient unit in terms of power and energy consumption. With the installation of a photovoltaic plant, the resort can produce a total annual amount of energy greater than that consumed by the development. Restaurant and Bars
Okay, let’s talk FOOD! Portugal has one of the best food experiences in the world. The Verdelago Resort delivered some of the best food we have experienced in all of Portugal. Locally sourced and creative culinary options make eating here one of the highlights of your stay. There are two main eating establishments- the Club main dining room and the Beach Club.
The resort offers a complimentary breakfast buffet unlike anything we have ever experienced. This is NOT your normal free breakfast hotel experience… from a full omelet station to pastries you’ll want to stuff in your pockets- eating at Verdelago is a full sensory experience. The main dining area offers beautiful indoor and outdoor dining options and there are free snacks to grab before heading to the beach. Cocktails anyone? All of the pool areas and dining areas offer signature cocktail options and you’ll feel like royalty sipping your favorite concoction in the afternoon sun!
The Beach Club Restaurant features Alfresco Dining with a rooftop bar and some of the best views in the Eastern Algarve. We met a group of women celebrating a bachelorette and this location would be the perfect girls weekend destination!

Conslusion:
Our stay at Verdelago was nothing short of spectacular- from start to finish. It was the perfect place to unwind, slow down and soak in the incredible natural beauty of Portugal. There are few destinations we would commit to returning but this is one of them… perfect for a family retreat or girls weekend celebration yet equally perfect for a honeymoon or slow travel experience. Verdelago offers long-stay and permanent residence options- let me tell you, this is a dream retirement option!
The Verdelago continues to grow and will be offering a traditional hotel option under the Marriot Hotels umbrella in 2027. We look forward to returning to the Verdelago Resort to explore many more of their first-class experiences and will be forever grateful to the Verdelago Team for offering us Mother-Daughter memories which will last a lifetime.
